OUR LOCAL HISTORY

The Barr family has a rich history of over a century investing in the Oak Cliff community, fostering education, recreation, and community gatherings. At Burt Barr & Associates, LLP, our commitment to Oak Cliff extends beyond legal representation. We are dedicated to our belief that strong roots are the foundation for lasting success.

John Holman Barr was born in Wilson County, Tennessee, on April 26, 1863. After relocating to Texas, the Barr family became deeply involved in the development of Oak Cliff.

The elder John H. Barr, along with Dallas Mayor Thad Adoue, co-founded and operated the first tennis club in Dallas, the "Dallas Lawn and Tennis Club," located at 203 East Colorado. This building, originally a hub for athletic practice, later transformed into a center for legal practice: Burt Barr & Associates, LLP.

Today, his grandson and namesake, John Holman Barr II, proudly continues this legacy. After repurchasing the historic building on Colorado Boulevard, Mr. Barr, his daughter Mary Christian Barr, and the team at Burt Barr & Associates, LLP, now operate their firm in the heart of their history in Oak Cliff.
